The general public grandstands have been equipped with CR4 seats, while in the VIP areas, the Avatar Premium tip-up seat has been chosen. This follows a previous restoration of the stadium’s iconic roofs, designed by star architect Santiago Calatrava.

The Olympic Tennis Center, located within the OAKA complex in Marousi, Athens, comprises 16 illuminated courts—the same surface used at the US Open. The Main Court has a seating capacity of 8,000 spectators, with additional facilities including media areas, VIP lounges, and athlete amenities.

European Standards establish the requirements for safety, strength, and durability (UNE-EN 13200-4) that seats must fulfil in order to be certified suitable for severe public use (vandalism).

How do we test the strength of our stadium seats in the factory?

Vandal proof stadium seats are tested during various stages, from product development to final production, before being installed in sports venues, fulfilling different phases:

1. Design phases developing prototypes until we get the definitive solution.
2. Certification in an accredited external laboratory: We send each stadium seat model to an external laboratory that certifies it according to the UNE – EN 12727: 2017 standards.
3. Quality control of manufacturing batches in production factory.

We have a complete laboratory equipped in order to carry out all the tests established by the current regulations and thus ensure the most demanding quality standards in our seats for sports facilities.

What regulations establish the strength and durability requirements for vandal proof stadium seats?

We carry out multitude of tests to ensure that our seats meet the European standards required by UNE-EN 12727 (static load, durability, and impact tests), through the precise application of large forces during certain cycles of time.

In this way, the seats for sports facilities continue to fulfill their function even under extreme use. We thus ensure the durability of the seat, regardless of the material used and the manufacturing process.

In this video we show several tests in which we put the Avatar seat to extreme tests, manually, jumping on the seat and kicking the backrest. These tests are even tougher than ones established in the regulations, to simulate possible acts of vandalism that can be carried out in a stadium grandstand.

We think is interesting to answer the questions asked by many users in social media.

Why does the colour fade on plastic seats? Is it possible to avoid it? How long can it take for this loss of colour to be visible? How can the original colour of the seats be restored? And above all, does the “gas torch technique” work?

Without going into technical details, we want to answer in some brief and simple explanations.

Why do plastic seats, and any plastic, lose their original colour over time? Is it possible to avoid it?

By the action of the sun, and it is inevitable. But this process is minimized with the use of anti UV additives that act as a chemical screen against the sun and slow down this degradation process as much as possible.

We share this study carried out by our technical team in our factory in Córdoba.

The comparison of a seat without any type of anti UV additive (right seat) that degrades its colour in a few months after continuous exposure to the sun, compared to another seat made with anti UV protection, which slows down this process.

Stadium seating colour fade is very progressive and slow over the years with the correct application of anti UV additives.

How many years can it take before this loss of colour is visible?

The geographical location where the plastic is exposed has a lot to do with it. As we can see in the following image, there are areas marked in red in which ultraviolet radiation is maximum, for example around ​​Ecuador, and others where it is minimal. So, logically colour fade will be slower in areas with less incidence of ultraviolet radiation.

Another important factor is the architecture of the sports venue itself. Colour behaviour is different if the plastic stadium seats are protected from solar action during part of the day than if they are being exposed to the sun during the whole day.

A maintenance solution is to incorporate some type of temporary covering on the bleachers more exposed to the sun, such as tarps, especially if there are not going to be used for a considerable period. Thus, we avoid weeks or months of exposure to solar radiation.

Are there lasting techniques to restore the original colour of plastic stadium seats? And above all, does the “gas torch technique” work?

This is not a real solution, since applying high temperatures to the plastic degrades the material of the seat and its additives. The same occurs in other “solutions” that we have seen applied on plastic seats for bleachers, such as the application of corrosive chemical liquids.

In conclusion, applying these techniques is unwise for plastic in general and for the seat itself, because we further degrade the material and its anti-UV additives (already deteriorated), drastically reducing its resistance to the sun.

That is why these renovation colour techniques are not long-lasting solutions. In our experience, plastics treated with these “solutions” present the same appearance in a few weeks as they had before applying any of these treatments.

And we also add this question, is painting the plastic stadium seats a solution to extend its useful life?

In the very short term, it can be a purely aesthetic solution depending on the quality of the paint application. But of course, it does not improve the mechanical properties of the seat.

We know that the adhesion of the paint on the plastic is not good, and after a period and its normally use it partially detaches from the seat causing stains or colour patches.

In the long term, if we are talking about seats whose material has already degraded over the years (even decades), the ideal solution is to replace them with new ones because this way we make sure that they comply with the current regulations (mechanical properties, loss of colour, corrosion of metal components such as screws).

How to protect stadium seats colour against UV radiation? some conclusions:

• Any plastic will lose its original colour due to the action of solar radiation, but it can be greatly slowed down for several years by adding the correct proportion of anti UV additives.

• To further prolong this slowdown in the discoloration of plastic, we recommend protecting the stadium seats as much as possible to minimize its exposure to the sun, especially in those areas of the planet with a higher proportion of solar radiation.

• Once the colour tone of the plastic has degraded it cannot be restored using corrosive chemical techniques or heat. After this application, we can see a lower layer of the plastic surface, but this new surface degrades again in a few months because by applying these techniques we have dramatically damaged its material and anti-UV additives.

• After several decades of use, it is necessary to carry out a study on the current state of stadium seating. Without aesthetics being the main reason for replacing the seats, we can find other important reasons to carry out a renovation, such as making profitable spectator areas with VIP areas or safe standing areas, or simply, replacing the seats that are more deteriorated in their internal structure and that could eventually start to crack. For example, it is recommended to check seats anchoring points.

We complete the SITTEM line with different accessories that allow customizing the seating areas according to their characteristics. Thus, fixed armrests are available in 2 versions, one basic and the other with closed and upholstered sides, offering a Premium finish to the whole. The two types of armrests are fixed to the same rail that they share with the SITTEM seats.

Another option available is the cup holders that are fixed to the armrests to optimize space. 

Another novelty in our offer are the folding armrests, which are fixed to the same rail, and which allow their installation on telescopic stands. They will also be a very practical solution in areas or rows where it is necessary to maximize the available row width, such as in press areas. 

The numbering space is designed so that the plate is inserted into the backrest hole without presenting any type of edge towards the outside, offering a smooth and compact surface.

Our proposal in recycled stadium seats is the result of several years of Research and Development in this line, which we also continue to study with other options and other materials.

All our plastic stadium seats are 100% recyclable, and their recycling is obligatory once they are removed from the grandstands. Which means that they could hardly be disposed of in the environment.

The new national football and rugby stadium, called “Stade de Luxembourg”, has 9400 Avatar seats.

Daplast Seating team has designed the stands with 9400 seats of the Avatar model, installed in a mosaic shape, with the colors of the country.

The stadium is built in accordance with current standards, specifically the FIFA / UEFA standards (stadium category 4) and World Rugby standards, and is therefore intended to host top-level official competitions.

Avatar Seating product range is characterized by its design (awarded by Red Dot Design in 2016), which combines ergonomics, comfort, aesthetics, and a monorail fixing system that allows quick assembly and flexibility to vary the distance between seats, either permanently or temporarily. So it also allows you to adapt the distance between seats to change distribution or seating capacity in the grandstands.

Another important advantage of this model of stadium seating is that it optimizes the space between rows, thanks to its small dimensions when it is folded, 20 cm. In addition to improve the spectators’ comfort, it provides safety since it minimizes emergency evacuation times of spectators at the stands.

All the pieces that conform this seat are injection molded (100% recyclable), only the lower rail to the concrete is metallic.

Built near Rennes, in northwestern France, the Glaz Arena comes to triple the capacity of the stadium so far used by the Cesson Rennes Métropole Handball for their training and matches. The main room of 2060m2 has 3 configurations thanks to its mobile stage, achieving a capacity that can vary depending on the needs, between 800 and 4500 seats.

The Glaz Arena thus becomes one of the most important venues in the area, being able to host not only sporting events (basketball, handball, volleyball, badminton, tennis, gymnastics, boxing, skating, etc.) but also any show (concert, monologues, ballet, musical, etc) with optimal conditions and visual comfort.

With approximately 28.995 Avatar stadium seats of different models, Basic, Premium and Suite – according to each area – fans were excited to try the new confortable Avatar seats. They also enjoyed all the improvements of the stadium reform during this opening. One of the main reforms is the elimination of the athletics track, so grandstands are now closer to the football pitch than before, improving the general atmosphere in the stadium.
